I think Sherman is a little gender challenged. :) He is not understanding the whole "pee like a man" thing. He has started lifting his leg when he does his buisiness but, it is his front leg which causes him to topple and pee all over himself. ICK!!! I think he needs a good male influence since it is obvious that he isn't getting that from Lucy and Prudy. lol

I know he's your first male. But be *very* thankful he's not lifting his leg, as they're never supposed to lift their legs, but be *very* thankfully he's not acurately lifting his leg at 5 months! You'd definitely have a hormonal boy *very* soon if he were!
I think Fielder got neutered too early...I've only seen him lift his leg ONCE!!! He pees like a girl lol
Haha! That is so funny! Yes lifting the leg is partially a learned behavior. Patriot never lifted his leg mostly because I never gave him anything to lift his leg on when he was doing his business. Then when he came back from being cc'd he tried it and fell over a few times. It took him a while but now he can pee like a "big boy"
I know, I never potty him near anything that he can lift his leg on, and I don't encourage it. I just think that if he lifts a leg it should at least be a back one. lol Anyway, I thought that it was okay to lift a leg as long as they aren't marking anything. I puppy sat a huge male cross that lifted a leg and he is a guide now. Hmmm. . .
Lifting legs is discouraged, because it is a marking behaviour. It's not banned, but it is discouraged, lifting a leg is the first step to marking. My little guy, Teddy, lifts his back leg everynow and sometimes simultaneously lifts his front leg, he also switches back legs mid-stream. Strange kid...
I am pretty sure it's ok as long as they aren't marking anything. Chappelle doesn't usually lift his leg,but when he does he is standing in the middle of the yard, with it barely raised, and I don't find that wrong or breaking the rules....
You should never correct a dog simply for lifting it's leg. However, you should correct marking. There's a thin line, I was simply saying that leg lifting should be discouraged because it is the beginning signs of a hormonal male who may begin to mark, other than in the case of an early-neuter. Leg lifting is either a learned behaviour or a hormone behaviour. It's up to the raiser to determine which their pup is exhibiting and deal with it accordingly. Leg lifting, in and of itself is not *bad* per se, but it definitely should not be encouraged or ignored (not that Megan's doing that!)
That's funny -
